By the authority of the
State Council P.R.China,the former Wuhan University of
Technology(WUT)under the Ministry of Education,Wuhan
Transportation University(WTU)under the Ministry of
Communications and Wuhan Automotive Polytechnic
University(WAPU)under the China National Automotive Industry
Corporation merged into one,as Wuhan University of
Technology.
The new university is a key institution under
the direct administration of the Ministry of Education.In
WUT,WTU and WAPU,with natural sciences being their
foundation,the subjects of natural
sciences,engineering,literal arts, economics and management
are combined and penetrated with one another and each
university has its own features.The former WUT was superior in
material science and engineering,resource and environment
engineering,civil engineering and architecture;WTU excelled in
waterway transportation engineering,maritime and nautical
technology;which WAPU focused on automotive engineering and
management.They have all joined the ranks of the state "211"
project construction.
The new university has eight major
disciplines,including natural
sciences,engineering,humanities,economics,management,law,philosophy
and education.It is a satisfactory and mutually complementary
variety,giving the new WUT a much wider space for development
and more strength for power and enhancement.The total area of
campus is 2750 acres or so. WUT has a building floorage of
1,100,000m2 and it possesses three libraries with a stock of
2,720,000 books.There are currently 6,500 staff,within which
over 1,750 individuals have senior academic or professional
titles.The university is authorized to confer forty-eight
bachelor's degree grograms as majors,fifty-eight Master's
degree programs,ten Ph.D.degree programs and there are three
post-doctoral mobile stations for scientific research.The
total enrollment of new WUT is over 30,000 students,among whom
nearly 2,200 postgraduates working on doctoral and master
degrees.There is one national key subject,twenty-nine
ministerial or provincial subjects,one national key
laboratory,one national key industrial testing base,nine
ministerial or provincial key labs and engineering research
centers in the university.
