Computational Modelling of Complex Systems and Processes - Algorithms and Methodologies

Emerging needs in modern engineering and technology require the treatment of complex problems which involve combinations of interactions amongst varying physical phenomena over a variety of time and space scales. Appropriate algorithms must be developed and careful structuring of the constructed simulation modules must be performed for the correct mathematical and numerical representation of the occurring physical phenomena and their subsequent coupling. Since the computations performed are in a multi-physics, multi-scale context, the simulation software must be optimized in such a way, so that it operates effectively under different computational platforms.
The aim of this session is to bring together scientists from the areas of computing, mathematics, physics and engineering in order to provide an overview of recent advances in the development of computational tools and technologies for the modelling of such complex multi-physics, multi-scale problems.
